Useful Tips

If it is your first trip to beautiful Bali here are some tips to assist in making your stay a pleasant one.

  • Visa upon entry is US$25.00 per person or equivalent in other currencies, they will now give change in Rupiah on the rate on the day.
  • Departure Tax is Rp 150,000 per person
  • Make sure that when you fill in the immigration form and you proceed through customs in Bali , that when you are given a small piece of the form ( COPY ) back in your passport that you don't LOSE it as this may cost you a major headache and some cash when you go to leave Bali. You need it then !!!
  • Airport porters are always waiting to carry your luggage, they will try to charge extortionate amounts but you should not pay any more than Rp 20,000 - Rp 40,000, remember they sometimes team up and you have to pay for each person separately...please be aware.
  • Do not change money at the airport if possible, the rates are well below normal money changer rates. There are very good money changers in Ubud, reputable and great rates and no commissions, so don't panic about not having large amounts of Rupiah before coming.
  • If you are hiring a scooter in Ubud, the going rate is around Rp 40,000 - Rp 50,000 per day.
  • Respect the culture and remember you are a guest in Bali.
  • Ubud is cooler than the lower regions of Bali so a lightweight long sleeve jacket is essential, especially if you will be riding a scooter.
  • The power is 220V, 50 Cycle and the plugs are dual round prongs of the European variety. Some hotels have adapters but is good to bring your own just in case.
  • Do not use roaming if possible as the fees are extortionate, bring a unlocked phone or buy a cheap phone in Bali and use a pay as you go sim card, saves the headaches of the shock of huge bills when you return.
  • Have your laundry done before you leave so your clothes are nice and fresh upon arrival and very cheap to be done in Bali in general.
